The Nike Youth Triathlon will be held entirely on the Nike World Headquarters Campus in Beaverton, Oregon. The event is for kids from 5 to 12 years of age with the objective of encouraging youth participation and achievement while promoting a healthy lifestyle through grassroots expansion in the sport of triathlons. The swim will be in the Lance Armstrong Sports Center pool followed by a paved bike loop on the campus and ending with the run at Ronaldo Field in front of the pool. Age groups are 5-6, 7-8, 9-10 and 11-12. Registration is limited to the first 300 entries. The start time is 9:00AM.

Awards
Podium awards will be given to 1st, 2nd and 3rd places in each age group for male and female.

Heat numbers and start times will be assigned and communicated to registered participants closer to race day.
Check in
Check in and race day registration (if any space remains) is 7:00AM - 8:30AM in the Lance Armstrong Sports Center.
Pre-race Orientation
There will be a pre-race orientation on August 15, 2009 from 2:00PM - 5:00PM in the Lance Armstrong Sports Center. Participants will pick-up their race goodie bags and review the race course. Late registration will be taken if space remains.

Swim Aids Swim aids such as kickboards or non-inflatable flotation devices will be allowed. Kickboards will be available at the pool. Inflatable flotation devices will not be allowed for use in this event. No performance enhancing devices such as fins will be allowed.
Training Wheels Training wheels will be allowed.
Non-finishers Athletes not finishing the event will receive a participant's medal. Non-finishers will have no posted times.
Disqualification Unsportsman-like conduct is also grounds for disqualification. Volunteers will be monitoring the course and transition area for infractions. Disqualified athletes will receive a participation medal but will be ineligible for podium awards (i.e., 1st, 2nd, 3rd place in age group) and will not have their times posted.
***IMPORTANT: Ages 9 & over must complete two laps of the bike race or subject to disqualification due to the electronic timing.
Age Limits The upper age limit is 12 years old at the time of the event. The lower age limit is 5. The Nike Youth Triathlon is conducted to be a positive experience and no child should be entered that is not going to benefit from the experience. Being asked to perform beyond one's abilities may not be a positive experience.
Relays There are no relay teams. Only one athlete is permitted per race number.
Refunds There will be no refunds for any reason.
Transition Area No parents or guardians are permitted in the transition area. Exceptions are for the 5-6 and 7-8 age groups where one parent may assist the athlete if needed. Volunteers will be present to assist the athletes and to restrict access. Permission to enter to assist an athlete must be granted by the entrance monitor. Please don’t take equipment out of transition areas until triathlon is over.
Rain or Shine The event will go on.
Equipment Must provide your equipment including: bike, helmet, swim suit, and shoes. Wearing a helmet at all times on the bike is MANDATORY.
Body Marking Markers will be used to write race numbers on participant’s body.
Chip Timing
Chip timing will be provided by Rogue Multi-Sport, LLC. Each participant will receive a timing chip and single use vinyl ankle band. The timing chip may be worn on either ankle. The ankle band cannot be removed or adjusted once the snap is fastened so be sure to achieve a secure and comfortable fit before closing the snap. The timing chip and ankle band will be removed by volunteers at the finish. The timing chip will work with any commercial triathlon timing chip ankle band if you prefer to provide your own band. Participants will not receive some or all times if the timing chip comes off during the race.
The timing chip will record the passing time of the participant when they cross over timing mats which will be calculated by the race timer to provide participant spilt times for the swim, bike and run, as well as, transition 1 and 2 times and the overall time. The timing chip must be retuned before leaving the finish area or you will be charged a $30 replacement fee.
Event Waiver
A parent or guardian must sign a hardcopy event waiver form at race orientation or on race day or the child will not be allowed to participate. Volunteers will also be required to sign a volunteer waiver form when you report for your volunteer position. You may download and review the waiver by clicking on the PDF icons to the right.
