Come join us for the second annual MAC Dash Sprint Triathlon to be held on Saturday, September 12, 2009. The MAC Dash is a pool-based sprint triathlon that is centered at the newly built Madras Aquatic Center in Madras, OR.The race consists of a 500 yard swim, a 12 mile road bike and a 3 mile run.Both individual and team competitors are welcome.This is a volunteer organized community event whose proceeds benefit the Madras Aquatic Center’s youth programming.
Madras is a small, rural community located in the beautiful high-desert of Central Oregon.There are nine snow-peaked mountains to the west and rolling hills to the east.Each leg of the MAC Dash provides amazing views of the mountains and surrounding area.September is a wonderful time of year in Madras with moderate temperatures and plenty of sunshine. Start time 7:30 AM for the first swim heat.
Swim - The MAC Dash will begin at the Madras Aquatic Center.This is a premier facility that just opened in January, 2008.Please visit http://www.macaquatic.com for pictures of this fantastic swimming facility.The swim requires completion of 20 lengths of the 25 yard lap pool.Your estimated 500 yard swim time is needed to determine your race heat and assign your start time. Bike - The bike course begins and ends at the Madras Aquatic Center parking lot.The course leads the bikers through agricultural and quiet, residential areas of Madras.The roads are wide and well paved.An ANSI/Snell approved helmet is required.Ride on the right side of the road and pass to the left.Drafting, defined as being within 3 bike lengths of the rider in front of you, is not allowed.Flaggers and volunteers will be at intersections along the race course, but be alert to traffic.This course is not closed. Run - Upon beginning the 3 mile run, competitors will head east past the Madras Aquatic Center and Jefferson County Middle School on another wide, well paved road. The runners enter Juniper Hills Park and complete one lap of the paved running trail. The race concludes on the track of Jefferson County Middle School.

You must be at least 14 years old to enter as an individual and at least 10 years old to compete on a team.
Registration - closes September 5, 2009 at 11:00PM PST.There is no race day registration.Both mail-in and on-line registration is available by clicking on the buttons above.There will also be registration forms available at the Madras Aquatic Center.Race participation will be limited to 200 individuals/teams. You must be 10 years and older to participate on a team. You must be 14 years and older to participate as an individual. All persons 18 years and younger must have a parent/guardian co-sign their registration form.
Training - An 8-week triathlon training course will be run out of the Madras Aquatic Center by the MAC Dash organizing committee.This will occur every Saturday at 8am beginning July 11th and ending August 29th.The course will cover specific strategies for the MAC Dash swim, bike and run courses. It's geared for beginners, but offers several opportunities to run the entire race prior to the event. The training is free.
Race Day - There will be a mandatory competitors meeting inside the Madras Aquatic Center at 7:00AM. The first swim heat will start at 7:30AM. Packet pick-up will be from 6:00AM - 8:00AM. Competitors will be provided with race numbers for the bike and the run, as well as access tags for competitor parking and the transition area. You will also receive a timing chip. The race provides a secure transition area in which only event staff and competitors will be allowed entrance. Please plan to bring your bike and race gear to the transition area on race day with plenty of time to make your swim heat.Security will be provided in the transition area from 6:00AM to noon on race day.All bikes must be picked up by noon.
Chip timing - This is a chip timed event. Participants must wear their assigned chip during the event. It is important that each team member wear THEIR chip so the time is asssociated with the correct race segment. Participants are responsible for returning their timing chip at the finish or be charged a $30 chip replacement fee.
Awards Party - Awards will be presented to the top male and female individual finishers and the top Jefferson County male and female individual finishers.We will also award the top finishers in each of the individual male and female age categories.These categories include 14-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70 and over.There are no age categories for relay teams.Two and three person teams will compete with each other.Awards will be presented to the top male, female, co-ed and family teams.There will be an after party with music, food and more fun.Random prize drawings will occur in which all competitors and volunteers will be entered.
Volunteers - Many volunteers are needed for this event.Volunteers will play a key role in the success of the MAC Dash while having a lot of fun.Each volunteer receives a T-shirt and is entered in the random prize drawings. Parking - Competitors and event staff will park in the south-end parking lot of the Jefferson County Middle School.Spectators will be directed to park in the north-end parking lot of the Middle School.Overflow parking will be available at Juniper Hills Park.There will be no street parking on roads used for the run and bike courses.
Directions - From the south:Take Highway 97N into Madras.Upon entering Madras, turn right at the second traffic light onto B Street.Follow B Street approximately 1 mile and turn right onto City View.Make your first left onto Kemper Way.The Madras Aquatic Center will be on your right.
From the north:Take Highway 97S into Madras.Upon entering Madras, turn left at the second traffic light onto B Street.Follow B Street approximately 1 mile and turn right onto City View.Make your first left onto Kemper Way.The Madras Aquatic Center will be on your right.
