May 16, 2009                         North Umpqua River above Glide, Oregon

This is a trail running experience not to be missed! Runners will take on the challenging and spectacularly scenic Deer Leap segment of the North Umpqua River Trail. Named after a volcanic plug that rises 1500 feet above the river, the course starts above the emerald green pools of Toketee Falls and finishes at an ancient Native Indian gathering point in the rolling green meadows of Illahee Flats. You'll cross two classic wood span bridges over Slide and Medicine Creeks as well as numerous other sparkling tributaries to this world-class fly fishing river. Every finisher gets a custom medal and commemorative race T-shirt. The Deer Leap Half Marathon is a must for any half marathoner's calendar! START TIME IS 9:30AM.

2009 UPDATE
- the course will detour off the North Umpqua River Trail for a couple of miles and take you up into the Boulder Creek Wilderness to skirt around fish passage construction at Soda Springs Reservoir.
