8K Trail Run The 8K trail run starts at 10:15AM and includes some of the best trails in the park. Starting on the Riverside Trail, the well marked course winds it's way along a grass path adjacent to the river in the north day-use area for a good warm-up before heading uphill onto extensive trail system including the Nature Trail, Maple Ridge and Cedar Knoll. The course is heavily treed in most areas with maple, oak, alder, cedar and douglas fir with a carpet of large swordtail ferns beneath. Although not as physically taxing as the 15K, this trail run does have significant ups and downs which make it one of the best 8K trail challenges you will find anywhere. 15K Trail Run The 15K trail run starts at 10:00AM and covers a truly challenging course including large scenic loops at each end of the park that are connected by the Vortex trail. The diversity of the terrain on this course is awesome! There are some steep hills that will test your strength and endurance. The trail surface is mostly dirt with some rock and gravel in sections and is wide enough in almost all areas for runners to pass. Three aid stations with water and sports drink will be located along the course. Off-Road Duathlon (15K mountain bike/15K trail run) Solo and team divisions!! The duathlon starts at 9:00AM with an exhilarating 15K mountain bike race followed by a 15K trail run. This is off-road duathlon at it's finest! The first 3K will be up the paved access road from the north day use area to the park viewpoint and then onto the trail system. Most of the trail is wide single track with sufficient room for passing. There are lots of ups, downs and turns on this very fun and diverse course. Some steep sections will require most riders to dismount and push their bike up the hill. The bike section covers the same course as the trail run described above. ANSI or CPSC certified helmets are mandatory. Mountain or cyclo-cross bikes may be used. No assistance is allowed. Off-Road Triathlon (15K mtn bike/ 9K trail run/4K down river kayak) Solo and team divisions!! Triathletes will start with the duathletes at 9:00AM and cover the same bike and run courses except they will abbreviate the run section near the upper boat ramp and transition to kayaks. The 4K kayak section starts with a big splash as you maneuver your way through a fun class 2+ rapid that offers perfect viewing for spectators. There are several long calm stretches punctuated by three discernable drops that are all class 1 or 2 in difficulty. All rapids on this section have large recovery pools at the bottom. Kayakers take out at the bottom unimproved boat ramp and run about 100 yards to cross the finish line. Inflatables, sit-on-tops, kayaks and canoes are allowed. Lifejackets are mandatory. Helmets are required for hard shell kayakers. No oarlocks or hard shell kayaks over 13'-0" long are permitted. If you show up with a longer boat, you will be permitted to race but you will be assigned a 15 second penalty for each inch over 13'-0". Click here for course maps and rules
NOTICE TO ALL RACERS - The access road into the north day use area where the race starts will be CLOSED from 9:00AM - 10:00AM. 8K and 15K trail runners need to be in the start area prior to 9:00AM so you don't miss your start times. You will not be allowed down the access road when it's closed. This is necessary because the triathletes and duathletes use this road as part of the mountain bike course.
